Two teensy eensy little watercolors

I finished two little miniature paintings yesterday, inspired by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
One is of a little girl "Runaway" running away from her parents who are obviously occupied talking. Watercolor with a little bit of ink.

The other is "The Hot Seat" - a garden bench in the tropical garden hothouse in the ABGs.
It's all in watercolor. The image size on both is 1.5" - but I've left a white border around the outside that can help with framing.

Physalis

8 x 11 inches, watercolor, 2009.

A painting of Physalis or Cape Gooseberries, as they are also known. They look like little orange tomatoes enclosed in a papery cage and taste as sweet as strawberries.

Satsumas

7 x 10 inches, watercolor, 2009.

I love satsumas and gobble loads of them at this time of year. I especially like them when they are a touch green and still a bit sour.

Poinsettia

7 x 7.5 inches, watercolor, 2009.

A painting of a poinsettia, the plant that finds a place in so many homes over Christmas. There is a mistaken belief that they are poisonous.

Three Bell Peppers

Painted for this months WNW 7 x 11 x 3 challenge - to paint a painting of a size with the shorter dimension no less than 7" and the longer dimension no greater than 11", with a three hours time limit to paint it.

Before the Fall

Autumn in the Pacific NW brings a wonder of gold and yellow to the trees that shed their leaves. Just touches of orange and brown for contrast. This is a glimpse Before the Fall.

For the first time, I painted on a totally blank piece of paper. No drawing at all, not even a horizon line. After getting past the fear...it was fun! Done completely by the picture in my head and the colors outside my window with a little help from my brushes.

Missing from picture, one very annoying squirrel!

PINE CONE

I've always loved pine cones. In my home state of South Carolina, they are everywhere. I love to walk thru the pine needles, and listen to the crunching needles under my feet, and look for perfect pine cones. Every one is a little individual.

Today I had to take a break from landscapes and needed to do something a little different. So I came up with these candles. And they took way longer than I thought they would. Those flames are tricky for me. ;-)
