Hamlet Hamster

"The Hamletster" Sepia ink, gouache and watercolor ACEO
A Hamlet hamster holds the skull of a Yorick hamster.
What with all the popularity of hamsters lately, this just had to happen. Alas, poor Shakespeare!
Happy Nun - Unmentionable

This watercolor was made for this moth EBSQart Show - Unemtionables Underwear
its' a squared art 5.5 x 5.5 inches painted on Arches 14olbs paper.
There's a story below it:
There’s a way to say here in Italy that says:” The dress doesn’t make the monk”…
This paint is inspired by a fact really happened to me when I was a young girl and used to spend some days during the summer with my friend Emanuela at her home near the sea in Tuscany.
One day, I was hanging up my bikini after coming home from the beach and saw a nice g-string (quite innovative at that time) hanged there, as neither me, my friend or her mother used to use this kind of underwear I asked who was the owner of this garment.
The replay to my question was like a frozen shower to me, because I discovered that the owner was my friend’s aunt that was in vacation there too.
What shocked me was that the aunt was quite old and that she was a nun!!!
That’s quite unmentionable and if I hadn't seen it with my eyes I would difficult have believed this, in this case we can say: “the dress doesn't make the nun”

Summer's Where?

We had three or four days of sun with temps in the 90s, I remember them well. Just last weekend the AC was a necessity. Now the heat comes on and it's in the 50s. I really enjoy warm summer nights. These dunes remind me of the Lake Ontario shore I visited each summer as a child. Able to stay up later because school was out, we'd play in the dunes until the sun set.

Puss in Boots with Buttes

This is what I call Fun Art. People used to tell me I should be an illustrator, because I have a way with stuff like this, but I've come to realize it's not really illustration at all. It's something else. Fun Art is somewhere between fine art and illustration. Like fine art, it's an expression of the artist's own sensibilities, ideas, and themes. And like illustration, it's accessible and well, fun!
ACEO done on 140 lb watercolor paper, with watercolor and gouache.
Puss has gone out west to seek his fortune, and to help
poverty stricken cowboys strike it rich.
He's wearing hand stitched cowhide boots, faded blue
jeans, a belt with a classic big cowboy style buckle
(silver, with his initial), a brand new denim vest, a red
bandana with paisleys on it (a western tradition), and he's
cut a couple holes in his Stetson for his ears (cats are
allowed to do that).
In the picture are prickly pear cactus, a cow skull, a
blooming century plant (agave), and in the background,
distant buttes.
Puss is doing the archetypal "cowboy lean" against the
fence. He's got his lariat ready to rope some stray dogies.
Back Yard Jungle

This month's entry for Nibblefest on eBay. We have a palm tree in our back yard, and I painted it plein air. Watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper, 9 x 12.
(well you guys, didn't mean to let a whole month slip past me before posting here again. thanks for all the comments on the great cosmic frog...I replied to it. I really appreciate this group!)

Pinking cherries in Pecetto - Italy
15 x 12 inches
This is a watercolor I made for a show in my local Univeristy whose Theme was Pecetto and its traditions and landscape.
Well, Pecetto is an ancient village on top of a hill. The zone around is full of cherry trees ans I prefered to focus my imagination on the pick-up moments in spite of most people that pointed on monuments and old walls.
In the background I've sketched the village surrounded above by the Alpes scenary, in the center is the Monviso where the Po river has its source.
I'm experincing new way to paint, more water and lights effects.

Potted Plants

Here in the Northwest, we had a sudden 3 day spurt of hot weather (in the 90's). I went out with my husband, picked out and potted some annuals for our deck, which inspired me to complete this painting I had begun the week before.
It measures 8"x4". I had the perfect frame for it and it's for sale in my Etsy shop - frame and all!
BTW- we're back to our typical spring - cool and rainy!

Pale Yellow Cabbage Roses Watercolor Painting

Pastel botanicals are always the first things that pop into my mind to paint. I love the pale, pale vintage David Austin cabbage roses. This painting is 4" x 6".

Pale Peach Cabbage Roses Watercolor Painting

I love pale pale vintage-looking cabbage roses. Especially the ones that are so heavy that they hang upside-down from the vine. This painting is 4" x 6".

Monet Wannabe

I went plein air painting with some friends on Thursday but I am more interested in painting them than the landscape. This is a quick watercolor of my friend, Peter Yesis. We only had about 30-45 min after lunch so we had to paint quickly. You can see Peter's blog post along with his completed painting here.

My Backyard
I love living in the Northwest. I love the green. I love the rain. I love the trees and the hills and the great volcanic mountains! When a group on Etsy named VAST - Visual Arts Team had a May challenge of creating something in the theme of "My Backyard" I thought about painting the deer standing among trees and ivy - or with a piece of one of my roses in it's mouth.
But then... the more I thought, the more I realized that my backyard is bigger than just my "property". My backyard is The Columbia Gorge... and all it's beauty. I live less than a mile away from The Columbia River and a Lewis and Clark campsite!
So here's my painting cropped to an 8"x10", representing my backyard titled "The Great Northwest"
