In mythology Telemachus is the son of Odysseus and Penelope. His father missing after fighting in the Trojan war, he goes in search of him and along the way becomes a man and hears stories of his father's exploits.

Antinous

In mythology, Antinous is one of the suitors of Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, while he is away fighting in the Trojan war. He returns disguised as a beggar to find Penelope has been faithful and kills Antinous. In David Gemmell's novel based on the Troy legend he has made Antinous a pirate captain who has invaded Ithaka and taken Penelope captive to avenge his father's death at Odysseus' hands. Odysseus arrives in disguise to rescue her and kill Antinous.

Hyacinthus

ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolour and gouache, 2008.

Hyacinthus was a Spartan youth loved by both Apollo and Zephyrus. While playing discuss with Apollo, Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, jealous of Hyacithnus' preference for Apollo, blew the discus so it hit Hyacinthus in the head, killing him. Apollo used Hyacinthus' blood to create the hyacinth flower.

Banokles ACEO

ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolour and gouache, 2008.

Banokles is another character from David Gemell's Troy novels. He is the friend and companion of Kalliades, both being outlawed Mykene warriors. Whereas Kalliades is thoughful and intelligent, Banokles is more brawn than brain, but is good natured for the most part.

Kalliades ACEO

Kalliades is a character from the second of David Gemmell's Troy novels, "Shield of Thunder". He is a Mykene warrior turned outlaw, on the run from Agamemnon. After saving Piria (actually Kalliope, Achilles' sister ) from pirates, he, his friend Banocles and Piria are taken aboard the "Penelope", ship of Odysseus.
