Cat on doorstep. Ashland, Oregon. ACEO original watercolor painting.

Just finished this original watercolor painting. It's an ACEO (sized always at 2.5x3.5"). I love doing art this size, it helps to really concentrate on the essentials.

I was looking at the door of an old building, when I saw I was being watched back. This fluffy cat made a lovely subject for this painting.

"Cat Nap" 16"x12" watercolor on paper

I do love sleeping paintings!  Somehow they make me feel like I too have caught up on my rest!  This painting will be delivered today to Poor Richard's Art in Rogers, Arkansas along with some of my art on giclee.

Cassie and Mannie

8 x 10 inches, watercolor, 2010.

Every year the EBSQ have a Pet Portrait Swap - you pair up with another artist from the site and swap portraits of each other's pets. I haven't taken part for a couple of years but this year I agreed to swap with Tracey Allyn Greene as she is a big cat lover and I have the new kittens (and she does lovely work!). This painting is of two of her cats, Mannie and Cassie. They had been abandoned and were lucky enough to be found and later adopted by Tracey. I tried to convey how contented and happy they are to be with each other and with Tracey!

Alice Does the Math for Humpty

"Alice Does the Math for Humpty" Original Watercolor on 8x10 inch medium weight hot press watercolor paper. Click on image to see enlarged

I did this painting as a sample for an illustration portfolio. It is a scene from "Through the Looking-Glass" by Lewis Carroll, in which Alice encounters Humpty Dumpty. Here is a quote from the book:

`You don't know what you're talking about!' cried Humpty Dumpty. `How many days are there in a year?'

`Three hundred and sixty-five,' said Alice.

`And how many birthdays have you?'

`One.'

`And if you take one from three hundred and sixty-five what remains?'

`Three hundred and sixty-four, of course.'

Humpty Dumpty looked doubtful. `I'd rather see that done on paper,' he said.

There are a lot of fun little things in the painting: a dragonfly, a rabbit, also Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee in the background. The column on Humpty's wall has a relief sculpture of the Cheshire Cat.

Hat Lady with Cat and Keys

"You Have Always Had Those Keys" watercolor and ink, ACEO, on medium weight cold press watercolor paper. On Ebay, with 20% going to Mercy Corps.

The Lady is wearing an elaborate hat with keys dangling off it. Around her neck is a heart shaped locket with a keyhole in it. There is a searching expression in her eyes. The Cat knows about the keys, and tries to let her know that they are within reach, and always have been.

Humpty In Love, Alice Thru Looking Glass Theme

"Humpty in Love" Watercolor valentine 4x4 inches, and ink on medium weight watercolor paper.

Humpty Dumpty is in love with the Red Queen. You can see her initials and his on the wall. However, the Red Queen is married to the Red King, so Humpty's love goes unrequited. Alice is in the background, hiding behind a tree, and the Cheshire Cat makes a sly appearance. Humpty shouldn't trust that cat. He's a gossip.

Available on ebay, with 20% going to Mercy Corps, to help out in Haiti.

Cats Love Sun

I used a lot of cobalt blue, rose madder and new gamboge to get the sun kissed colors in the shadows and on the white cat. Fun ;)
