Spray Mist Muse

This is from a DPW challenge, Paint What You Paint with. In my case, a spray bottle and my imagination are part of my tools.

"Mister Muse" ACEO 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches. Watercolor and ink on 140# paper.

Doing 30 days of painting

Poppy Landscape ACEO

I am challenging myself to just paint daily for 30 days.  I won't be painting a finished piece but I will paint something everyday which I don't do.  Well some days I take pictures all day or read an art book or peruse art websites but those too get in the way of creating.  So I painted this at 11:50PM last night lol  But it was done at 12:30 - I love that panic button!!!  This is a monthly challenged in Wetcanvas miniature group.  I had never participated in any of that before, usually I just go to the image library.

This video prompted me to do the 30-day deal.  By the way this painting is day #3

The First Tools -

The DPW Challenge - Tools.  Yes, that brush is a very good brush, but the hand holding it isn't too bad either!

ACEO Neglected tool...

"Neglected, But Not Forgotten" 2.5x3.5 watercolor on paper

I don't take it lightly when I discover that I've forgotten to wash a brush, especially when it's with oil paint or acrylics.  Aside from the high cost of good art supplies, I strongly believe the old say, "when you take care of your tools, your tools will take care of you."  But this one brush was not the first I've damaged and it probably won't be the last!  I painted this for the Daily Paintworks Paint What You Paint With challenge :)

Beach Cabins

Here's a little quickie from last week.  Don't you just love using the white of the paper?  Yep, definitely one of the joys of watercolor. LOL
This is an ACEO and it sold yesterday.

Extreme Waterplay

The DPW Challenge this week is "Paint what you Paint With"
so I did.
No wet in wet here.
The painting is 5x7 on very smooth hot pressed paper.
I used those watercolor paint sticks and that very pen.

Solo Mio

"Solo Mio" 7x5
This too is a response to Daily Paintworks Challenge to paint the Old Mill.  One of my most enjoyable fishing experience was when I camed at the Kern River in northern California.  It was rocky and the was had nice movement.  I didn't catch a single thing but I still enjoyed it.  Anyway, that was my inspiration for my rendition of the old mill reference photo :)

She Ain't What She Used To Be!

Midnight Texting

This was done at one of my caricatures gigs. I'd arrived early, and since I didn't have anyone to draw just yet, I did a quick watercolor sketch of a girl intent on staying in touch.

"Midnight Texting" 6x6 inches, on bristol paper.

Shore Leave

ted e bear, Shore Leave

It began almost a year ago. My bear was weary of sitting on the shelf and suffering from neglect.
He decided to vacate the sedentary life and explore all his opportunities.
Just recently, he joined the Navy to see the world.
Here he is, in Venice on his first shore leave.

This original painting measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches, and is watercolor and pen on 140 lb paper.

Bluebonnets

I'm finally learning how to make prints of my watercolors! I got myself a nice Epson printer and some fancy Epson presentation paper, and jumped into the quicksand. I thrashed around in the manual for a few weeks, enlisted the kind advice of the members of this wonderful group (Watercolors Wet N Wild), scoured the internet for assistance, tried to match up Photoshop techniques with my Epson, and learned about all kinds of things I didn't want to know about (like aspect ratios)...and finally had my very first print. And it only took me a few weeks and about five hundred dollars. For one little bluebonnet print. But I'm happy. I'm on my way. Got a long way to go and alot more to learn, but I'm on my way. For those of you who would like to make prints of your watercolors, I have this advice: save yourself.

Here Kitty, Kitty!

Here Kitty, Kitty!

Painting a cat is not a thing that I would normally do.  I'm a dog person.  You do know that there are 'cat people' and 'dog people', right?  Well, that's what I was told by my Uncle.  LOL!

This was a DPW Challenge and so I painted a cat, and it was fun!  My fingers didn't itch and I didn't sneeze (yes, I'm allergic), and I made a little personal growth.  Watercolor on 140# paper.

For sale:  $30

Wild Rose in China Pitcher

I do love those fat cabbage roses they are hybridizing now, but I have to admit my favorite rose is still the old fashioned wild rose - a single variety. They just look more nostalgic and old-fashioned to me. And they come in such soft, lovely colors. I love the way they crawl lazily over old fences. They are a perfect subject for watercolorists!

Tired Peony with it's Vegetable Friends DPW challenge

"Tired Peony and its Vegetable Friends" 10x6 watercolors
This week's Daily Paintworks challenge is to paint vegetables from life.  I wasn't sure how I'd like the challenge, especially using watercolors.  I tend to think in oils when I consider painting still life.  But I think the rich color transitions made this project fun.

I was tempted to paint a person for the peony's friend but I didn't.  So I hope I get humanitarian points for that ;)

Butterfly & Lilac Watercolor

It's lilac season here in Nebraska. I haven't seen any monarchs yet but somewhere in the world they must find some lilacs, maybe further south? This was a fun little painting that I presented to my watercolor class so they could experiment with masking fluid and negative painting.
