Walnut Whip Waltz

9.5 x 6.5 inches, watercolour, 2010.

I used to love walnut whips as a child - they were a favourite of my Mum's too. I hadn't had one for years and when deciding what chocolate to paint suddenly thought of them. I wasn't even sure they still made them. They do, but not like they used to. The chocolate case is now moulded rather than piped and the creamy inside is more sickly than I remember. The walnuts used to form the lid of the chocolate pot but now they are stuck on the top. So, a bit of a disappointment. Still, they made a good subject, looking like like chocolate daleks!

Cherries and Chocolate Cake

10 x 7 inches, watercolor, 2010.

This was painted for the Watercolour's Wet 'n' Wild February challenge. We were provided with several black and white photos of different objects (all with different light sources!) and were asked to choose 3 - 5 elements from the photos to make a composition. I decided on a cherry theme with red and green dominating the colour scheme.
