Medusa ACEO

ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolor and gouache, 2008.
Medusa was a sea nymph, the most beautiful of three sisters called the Gorgons. After making love to Poseidon in a temple dedicated to Athena, she was transformed by an angry Athena into a monstrous creature with snakes for hair. Anyone who looked upon her face was turned to stone. She was killed as she slept by Perseus who then cut off her head and used it as a weapon.

I would have commented faster but I'd been turned to stone ★ Excellent, Mark!

WOW!

What a strong piece. Modern and mythological at the same time. You're always making the old tales come alive!

Hey I just noticed they are coral snakes. Red and yellow kill a fellow. What a fun detail.

Wonderful, Mark! The snakes are outstanding, and love the skull necklace! Bears a striking resemblance to my mother. Yikes! :)

Mark are you juried at EBSQ?
If yes you MUST submit it at the Mythological show!

Thank you everyone!! Theresa, I wasn't sure if I had got the snake colours right! Lore, I am juried but isn't the show about creation myths? Not sure she really fits in with that!
