Coffee Cup Watercolor Painting

I painted this coffee cup recently, in remembrance of a collection of these cups that my grandma had. I think she got them as "gas station giveaways". Gas stations used to give dishware away to their customers as a promotional item. They gave away depression glass, carnival glass, jadeite, and melamine-type dishware. Boy, have things changed!!!

Saint Sebastian Commission

4 x 6 inches, watercolour, gouache and gold ink, 2008.


This was a commission piece. The client liked one of my other Sebastian paintings and wanted a similiar piece. The previous painting he liked was an ACEO so I kept the figure and the sky similar but opened up the painting and revealed more of his body and the landscape in the background. I heightened the emotion of the piece with a more intense expression of sorrow on his face. The client was very happy with the finished painting.

Dabbling with watercolors

Didn't really feel up to painting (yet), but thought I'd dabble since it was slow at the co-op gallery where I worked all day today. My friends took me out for my birthday lunch yesterday and it was so much fun so I wanted to paint some thank you cards to mail tomorrow. I'm just painting things I don't usually paint lol

Texas Bluebonnets in Mason Jar Watercolor Painting

I'm always looking for new ways to paint Bluebonnets. They're kinda frustrating to paint, because of all the tiny bits and parts, and the leaves are so small. It's hard not to nitpick with them. But I love to see wildflowers in mason jars. So simple and unpretentious.

Watercolor Wenesday - Mom, Mother, Mum

My Mom loved Pink, my Gramzy, too. My youngest daughter who recently became a Mom is crazy for Pink as well.

This simple rose is my Mother's Day greeting to the only one of those great ladies with a mailing address.

That pink thing skipped me entirely. When I purchased hundreds of Blue Bell bulbs for my yard, imagine my surprise when half of them bloomed pink. Still making their presence known?

Light vs. Dark

I looked out my bedroom window and saw this gorgeous moon, sitting upon golden glowing clouds with the silhouette of branches. It stuck in my mind for days until I just had to try and paint it.

It's a very representational piece to me. The brightness of the moon casting a new light - a golden light upon the darkness... the two foreground trees creating a cross...

Jesus is that light in my, sometimes very dark, world. I'm thankful for the physical and natural reminders I have of this truth.

Texas Bluebonnet Landscape Painting

This is an 8"x10" watercolor that I just finished. It's an old Texas country cabin, with sheets hanging on the line and bluebonnets blooming along the path. It's a little different than most of my Texas landscapes, because usually I plant a big Live Oak tree in the foreground. This one is simpler and more stylized than usual. I wanted to convey some of the simple, plain scenes that we sometimes still see in rural Texas.

The Genie of the Lamp

6 x 9 inches, watercolor and gouache, 2008

This was painted for the EBSQ "1001 Nights: Stories of Scheherazade" Show. It shows the genie of the lamp from the Aladdin story. Aladdin is tricked by a man he believes is his uncle but who is really a wicked magician, to enter a cave to retrieve a lamp for him. Aladdin is shut in the cave by the magician when he refuses to hand over the lamp but he escapes by using a magic ring the magician had given him. The genie of the lamp appears when his mother cleans the lamp and Aladdin uses the genie to gain himself riches and a beautiful palace and he marries the Emperors daughter. However, the magician returns and tricks the princess into giving him the lamp. He then gets the genie to transport the princess and the palace to his own country. Aladdin is able to use the genie of the magic ring to follow him and he and his wife trick the magician and poison him. They return to their own land with their palace and live happily ever after.
