Wild Rose in China Pitcher

I do love those fat cabbage roses they are hybridizing now, but I have to admit my favorite rose is still the old fashioned wild rose - a single variety. They just look more nostalgic and old-fashioned to me. And they come in such soft, lovely colors. I love the way they crawl lazily over old fences. They are a perfect subject for watercolorists!

Pink Rose

6.5 x 7 inches, watercolor, 2009.

I'm not sure what sort of rose this is, just that it's pink and beautiful!

PINK PEONY

I love greyed pinks. There are so many ways to grey a pink, but I love the combination of Quin Pink and Sepia. Partnered with soft greens....perfect.

Pale Pink English Climbing Roses Watercolor Painting

These are pale powder pink climbing roses, inspired by the beautiful rose creations of David Austin. I painted them on some Sennelier hot-pressed watercolor paper that a friend gave me (Thank you, Lee). A new kind of paper, for me, and I like it! I used Graham, Winsor & Newton, and Grumbacher watercolor paints. I love climbing roses - such an interesting combination of the casual and the elegant.
