Elizabeth Wydeville

4 x 6 inches, watercolor, gouache and gold ink, 2008

Elizabeth Wydeville was the mother of Elizabeth of York and grandmother of Henry VIII. She had married Edward IV in 1464. She had previously been married and had two sons, and with Edward gave birth to ten more children. When Edward died in 1483 her brother-in-law Richard III took the throne, placing her two sons Edward and Richard in the Tower of London, after which they were never seen again. After Richard's defeat by Henry VII in 1485, her daughter Elizabeth of York married Henry and the Tudor dynasty was begun. Elizabeth spent her last few years living in a convent and died in 1492 aged 55.

A Warm Beach

Just finished this watercolour for a client, a beach in Barbados, somewhere nice and warm to brighten a dull cold English winter.

Mucha Rendition - Spring

4 x 6 inches, watercolor, 2008,
This was painted for the WNW Watercolor Groups Monthly Masters Challenge. This month the theme is "Spring". This is a rendition of "Spring" by Alphons Mucha. Mucha's work became synonymous with Art Nouveau, a style of decorative graphic art featuring beautiful women and flowing lines that encompassed all areas of design, from posters to jewellery to furnishings.

Watercolor Wednesday - LUCKY BINGO

Where I come from the sweet little old ladies take their BINGO very seriously. (My Grandma among them!) And you rarely see one of them playing without some type of good luck charm on their cards. This winner used a four-leaf clover to bring her luck!
