Dutch Iris Flower Challenge

This format is also known as ACEO (Art Card Editions and Originals). I took the reference photo 7 years ago so I'm glad to have finally painted from it for my watercolor group's flower challenge. This iris was simply begging to be painted with the its beautiful contrasting colors of yellow and purple along with the ridges on the tips of its petals that fold along the tips for added feature.

Wooden Indian - Americana old western town

My latest watercolor:

It's an old statue - wooden Indian, in the Western town of Jacksonville, Oregon. This town is used a lot for old western movies, so this probably has been photographed or filmed many hundreds of times.

A portrait of Elizabeth I. Edmund Spencer's poem "The Faerie Queen" featured a character based on her called Gloriana and it bacame a popular nickname for her. Elizabeth ruled for 45 years between 1558 and 1603.

A portrait of the ill-fated Mary, Queen of Scots. Executed aged 44 in 1587 for plotting to overthrow Elizabeth after being held a virtual prisoner for 18 years after being forced to abdicate the throne of Scotland to her son in 1568.
