When Erika left California for Arkansas, she bequeathed me many beautiful plants. A cactus, which is now in bloom is one of them. These are two blossoms that fell off the plant and landed in a shot glass.
The delicate structure and pink and yellow shades of this alstromeria were a challenge to paint. We have these in several colours in the garden, a legacy from my father.
This is a part of a series of Coffee Cups that I painted for fun. Coffee cups are great subjects because you can go crazy with the colors. It's better, sometimes, after I make my initial drawing, if I just throw the reference material out the window, and concentrate on colors.
